Transferable Skills Letter

I have held many jobs where many different skills were involved in order to accomplish my duties.  When I worked for a dental office as a dental assistant, I learned  lifelong skills that would help me in every career opportunity that might come my way.
One of the skills I learned while I was there was to be courteous and friendly to customers.  No one particularly wants to go to the dentist, so we had to be extra nurturing and make sure that the client felt comfortable and was at ease.  Another great skill I learned was to be extremely organized with the tools and equipment used.  We had to know where the equipment was kept at all times so we could be more productive throughout the day and not waste time looking for things that were misplaced.  Another helpful skill I learned was to be a good listener.  The dentist would ask for different instruments and we were the ones in charge of handing him what he needed when needed.  I could not have preformed that duty well if I were not actively listening to the dentist at all times.
These tree skills that I have learned while working at the dental office will forever benefit me in everything I do.  I was able to gain these lifelong values that will always help me be a better person in the things I am trying to accomplish.

Skills Assessment

Skills I enjoy are: Creating, planning, and organizing.
Skills I perform well: problem solving, refining, and improving.
Skills I want to develop: counseling, negotiating, and calculating.

I enjoyed taking the skills assessment because it gave me more of an insight on what skills I enjoy more than others and what occupation might be a good choice for me. I found out that occupations that were more people oriented where a better choice for me such as a nurse, counselor and therapist. I have actually considered these occupations as something I might enjoy in the past, so taking the test just reinforced these feelings for me.
My plans for developing skills that I might want and do not have now would be to try different activities that put me in a situation where I might need to use these skills. For example, going back to school and taking classes I might not want to take will help broaden my skills and work ethics.

Top 10 Values

My work values go along with my personal values hand in hand.  Since starting my family, I would say my values have dramatically shifted since it is just not me I need to think about, but also my children and husband.
I would say that my first value would have to be family.  I have a family, so I would want my employer that is big on family values.  Then, security in a job is also high on my list of values.  Once I know what it is I want to do, I want to know that it will be there for me to provide for my needs.  Flexibility would be another value that I would look for.  Being a mom, I want to be able to attend my kids soccer games, dance classes and be there to pick them up from school if they get sick.  Another value that is important would be variety in my work.  I get really bored with things and need constant change in my life, so I would go crazy being stuck to a desk for eight hours a day, five days a week.  I really want to enjoy what I am doing too, so pleasure is also on my values list.  I can’t imagine what it would be like to do something I hate for the rest of my life.  Creativity is another value I want to have.  I love to create things, and to think outside the box.  I like to use different ideas to create something new.  I would really enjoy a job that pays well, of course.  Who wouldn’t want that?  A good economic return is another value of mine.  I really like feeling accomplished in the things I achieve, so accomplishment is important to me.  I like to know that I have done the best I can in what I have done.  My last two values would have to be health and aesthetics.  I really feel better when I can be healthy physically and emotionally, and when things are organized and “pretty.”  I believe that when my body is in harmony with my surroundings, I am a better person.

Mission Statement

I will work hard, do what I love to do and enjoy my life to its fullest.
