ASSESSMENTS REVIEW SHEET
For this assignment, you will use the results from your Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory (SII) assessments to determine some particular occupations and majors to research.
MBTI Report
1. List your reported type. (Example: ESTJ) ESFJ
2. According to your report, what are some of the characteristics that best describe your personality type? I like to interact closely with others, I like to help others solve problems, I like teamwork, I like to set goals, like to collect facts to help make a decision, among others.
3. Refer to the list of the 50 most popular occupations page or go to http://www.careervoyages.gov/top50occupations-main.cfm Read the list of occupations, circle the ones that you would like to explore, and list them below.
I wouldn’t mind owning my own business like a flower shop or bakery, an interior designer, a teacher, or something in the medical/health field.
4. How do you believe the occupations you have chosen to explore fit with your personality preferences? Explain how these occupations allow you to work in your preferred work environment.
I am creative and like to set goals and finish them, and I like a challenge. I like to work with people, which would be great for health care and also for teaching. I have an artistic trait and think that owning my own business would let me be vreative and be able to do something I really enjoy.
SII Report
1. List your general occupational theme code. (Example EAS) SEA
2. List your 5 Basic Interests Scales and determine what type of interest they represent from the following: vocational, educational, leisure activities, personal interest. (Examples might include: religion-personal interest, teaching-leisure, healthcare-vocational)
Culinary Arts – leisure activity
Performing Arts – personal interest
Religion & Spirituality - educational
Healthcare Services - vocational
Medical Science - educational
3. Refer to pages 5, 6, and 7 of your SII profile. Look at all the occupational scales you scored highest in (generally 40 or above), or that have a combination of your theme code. List the occupations from the scales that you might like to research.
LPN, School counselor, Florist, cosmetologist, respiratory therapist
4. For the following questions refer to Personal Style Scales on page 8 of your SII profile.
A. Look at your “Work Style” rating. What does your score suggest to you in relation to the occupations you listed above?
It says I like to work alone and enjoy data and ideas, so the LPN might not be a great fit for me since I would have to tend to the patients all day
B. Look at your “Learning Environment” rating. How do the educational requirements of the occupations you listed fit with your interest to pursue additional training?
It states that I like to learn by doing and prefer short term training. Since I don’t know exactly what training I need yet for a career I want, it is kind of hard for me to say what my additional training looks like.
C. Look at your “Leadership Style” rating. How do these occupations fit your personal style?
I am in the midrange for that rating, so it goes both ways. I would be fine with leading something I was confident in, but other things that I am not so comfortable in I would have a hard time leading others towards it.
D. Look at your “Risk Taking/Adventure” rating. Explain how the occupations do or do not match your risk taking style.
It says here that I do not like taking risks and prefers to play it safe. I don’t know how well that would work out in owning a business because you need to take risks in order to get anywhere. I would probably go over all the pros and cons before taking any risk to make sure it was a smart decision.
5. What college majors are suggested for your theme code that you find interesting?
Philosophy, Nursing, Health sciences, Counseling, and maybe music
6. Of your top 10 occupations, list 3 you are most interested in and the educational
preparation required for each.
Nursing, Florist, and Cosmetologist. For nursing I would need to go see the Nursing councelors to set up my prerequisites, for a Florist I would probably need to get a degree in Horticulture, and for cosmetology, I could go to a vocational school and finish in two years.
Occupations not listed on MBTI or SII
1. List any occupations you are interested in that were not listed on your MBTI or SII reports.
Hygienist
Meet with a Career Counselor at CACC
1. Make an appointment to review your assessment reports with a career counselor in Career and Academic Counseling (LC402 or contact by phone: 801-863-8425).
2. List any comments or suggestions made by the counselor regarding selection of a career or major and/or your assessment results.
Before we went over my results, he did a quick assessment of my personality and the results for that did not match up with the test results. So he suggested that I really take time to truly find myself and what personality traits of mine are my natural traits rather than ones I have nurtured.
3. Write the name of the counselor you met with and the date of your appointment.
